The first time she had permitted herself to be seen, she had felt the eyes of the other courtiers stabbing like hot metal into her back.

It didn't matter. As long as the Lord Marshall determined she had value, their glares were the only weapons they could safely inflict upon her. Crossing Riddick came at a cost, and they were all had her to look upon as an example.
